HotTakeCourt ("we", "us", or "our") is a social opinion app where users submit hot takes and vote on each other's content. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Account information. We use Clerk for authentication. When you sign up with Google or Apple, Clerk provides us with your name, email address, and profile photo. You may also set a display name and status within the app.
Content you submit. This includes the text and video hot takes you post, the category you choose, and your votes (Valid or Trash) on other takes.
HTC-operated juror accounts, jury votes, and house content. We may operate labeled HTC Juror accounts and publish seeded or generated house content to keep parts of the app active in low-traffic periods. HTC Jurors may provide labeled in-app Jury votes on user takes as part of the entertainment experience. Those accounts may have profile text, bios, badges, and automated activity indicators, and may interact with other HTC Juror accounts.
Social interactions. We store follows, reactions, jury comments, and room membership data so the social features work correctly.
Device tokens. If you enable push notifications, we store your Expo push token to send you alerts (e.g., when someone follows you).
Usage data. Our server logs standard request data (path, status code) for debugging. Logs do not include request bodies or personal content.
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the following service providers to operate the app:
We may disclose your information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
Your content and account data are retained for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account (available in the Profile tab), we permanently delete all your takes, votes, reactions, social connections, and scores from our database. Video files are also deleted from storage. HTC Juror profile metadata and house content are retained separately as app-operated content.
HotTakeCourt is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it.
Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal data including access, correction, deletion, and data portability. To exercise these rights, contact us or use the account deletion option in the app. We will respond within 30 days.
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data including HTTPS for all data in transit and access controls on our databases and storage. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, however.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the new policy in the app. Continued use of HotTakeCourt after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
